Nicholas A. Hoyle, 27, of Sharon Hill, is accused of fatally shooting Dwayne Williams, 54, at the McDade Boulevard station in Collingdale on Monday, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

“I want to commend the Collingdale and Sharon Hill Police Departments for their great work in collaboration with my Office’s Criminal Investigation Division for solving this homicide and bringing the killer to justice in less than 48 hours,” District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said.

An officer was on patrol Monday morning when he spotted a man lying inside the SEPTA trolley stop.

The victim, later identified as Williams, was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

A medical examiner later determined that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, they said.

Footage from local businesses captured Williams sitting on a bench at the trolley station when a second man appeared, wearing tan Timberland-style boots, dark pants, and a black and blue jacket, police said.

The second man, later identified as Hoyle, was seen standing and pacing outside a shelter before raising his arm and pointing at Williams, the DA's office said.

Williams was later seen hunched over, clutching his chest.

Additional footage captured Hoyle making a purchase at a convenience store.

Tracing the transaction led to the identification of the suspect as Hoyle, who had previously been convicted of robbery, making him ineligible to possess a firearm, authorities said.

Officers stopped Hoyle while on patrol on Wednesday, and he had a firearm in his waistband as well as the EBT card used at the convenience store the day of the killing, the DA's office said.

Hoyle was transported to George W. Hill Correctional Facility with bail denied.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 22.
